Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) can cause overwhelming emotions, critical thoughts, destructive behaviours and difficulty within relationships. Unsurprisingly, for those people living with BPD, life can often feel too much.

Research has shown that Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) can help reduce BPD symptoms by building important life skills.

  • Mindfulness - ground and calm your busy mind whilst developing acceptance skills
  • Distress Tolerance - learn to tolerate overwhelming emotions using healthy coping strategies
  • Emotional Regulation - develop techniques that will help you to understand your feelings, reduce your mood swings and experience more positive emotions
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness  - improve your relationships, find out how to state your needs and set your personal boundaries clearly and calmly

DBT is a longer-term therapy compared with other therapies - typically treatment can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. It’s important that individuals with BPD have the opportunity to learn new skills at their pace and have the support of a therapist whilst embarking on a new way of managing their emotions.

If you or a loved one would benefit from DBT please contact me to see how we could work together.
